THE NAMED ANGELS

This program pairs the deeply moving Molto Adagio from Beethoven's String Quartet, Op. 132 with living composer Mohammed Fairouz's rousing quartet, The Named Angels. Each movement of Fairouz’s quartet paints a portrait of one of the angels named in the Islamic, Christian, and Jewish traditions  — angels that embody justice, power, kindness, healing, and death.

HOT CLUB OF FRANCE

Sunday, December 14 at 3pm

Redux Contemporary Art Center

1056 King Street, Charleston, SC 29403

Lee Barbour guitar and Le Pumpe Jazz band

In honor of virtuoso guitarist Django Reinhardt and his band, we’re turning Redux into the 1930’s Hot Club of France to celebrate Manouche jazz — the unique blend of swing and Romani folk music that never fails to get your feet tapping and blood pumping! Local guitarist Lee Barbour and his band will highlight Reinhardt’s influences and the unexpected life experiences that shaped his technique and style. Violinist Lydia Chernicoff will join the band for a couple of tunes to bring a bit of Stéphane Grappelli’s essential fiddle sound to the mix.
